How it works

How to export a WhatsApp chat to Excel

  1. 1

    Export the chat

On iPhone, tap the chat or group name at the top, then Export Chat. On Android, tap ⋮ › More › Export chat. Choose Without media.

  2. 2

    Drop the file in

iPhone gives you a .zip, Android a .txt. Drop either one in as it is, or paste the text.

  3. 3

    Convert it

Leave the request box empty and convert. Each message becomes a row, with its details pulled from the message text.

  4. 4

    Tidy up and download

Type “delete rows where Email is empty”, then “add a total row”. Each change is previewed before it is applied.

Real example

A team order chat, from WhatsApp to Excel

We converted a group chat, exported from an iPhone, where two staff members post new orders. Names and email addresses are made up; the table, commands and formulas are the engine's real output.

1In the chat export

2In Nexell

  1. Chat text pasted in and converted with the request box empty: 6 rows. Date, time and sender were stripped from every line.
  2. delete rows where Email is emptyRemoved rows where Email is empty (2 rows removed)
  3. add a total rowTotal row added — uses SUBTOTAL in Excel, so it updates when filtered · 1 numeric column

Each command came back as a preview first and changed the table only after Apply. The two removed rows were the system line and the shop's “Thanks both” reply.

3In Excel

C6fx=SUBTOTAL(109,C2:C5)

Amount is a real number (the dollar sign became USD in the Currency column), so the total adds up. The quantity stays inside Product / Description. The Chart sheet groups Amount by currency, which adds little here. Cost: 3 credits.

Why Nexell

What Nexell does differently

Timestamps stripped

The date, time and sender at the start of each line are removed before the message is read.

Details from free text

Names, email addresses, amounts and items written in a normal sentence go into their own columns.

Amounts become numbers

“$24” becomes 24 with USD in a Currency column, so totals and filters work at once.

Drop the export as it is

The Android .txt and the iPhone .zip both work, and so does pasted text. No unzipping needed.

Preview before anything changes

Every edit you type is previewed and applied only when you approve it. Each step can be undone.

Your chat is not kept

The text stays in our server's memory only while it is processed: no disk, no database, no outside service.

Limits

What to know before you start

  • Not a message log. Date, time and sender are not kept as columns. Names come from the message text, so a chat where customers write only “2 bars please” gives rows without names.
  • Leave the request box empty for English chats. A request such as “WhatsApp orders to a table” switches on an order reader built for Turkish messages; on some English chats it returns Turkish column names.
  • Check phone numbers. Phone numbers are read in Turkish format, so a US number like (503) 555-0142 is rewritten as 0503 555 01 42.
  • One order per message, on one line. A message split over several lines becomes several rows.
  • No media. Photos, voice notes and locations are not read; export Without media.
  • English and Turkish only. Requests are understood only in these two languages.

FAQ

WhatsApp chat to Excel: common questions

How do I export a WhatsApp chat to Excel?

In WhatsApp, export the chat Without media. Drop the .zip or .txt file into Nexell, or paste the text, and convert. Remove unwanted lines with one request, then download.

Is it free?

The Free plan gives you 30 credits a month, no card needed. The conversion and each command use 1 credit per 10,000 rows; the example above used 3. Downloading is free.

Does it work with group chats?

Yes. Every message becomes a row, including system lines and replies; one request such as “delete rows where Email is empty” clears them out.

Can I keep the date and sender of each message?

No. Nexell strips them and keeps the details inside the messages. If you need the full chat history, keep the exported file as well.

Is my chat stored?

No. The text is kept in memory only while it is processed. The server keeps just the credit record: job type and rows.
